Day 10 of Gym and Wine and Cheese!
I had a really productive day today! Wrote a report for an internal client, and sent a ton of data to an external client, deployed code, went to meetings, answered questions, created a DB linked server for the CIO, explained processes and enjoyed talking to friends. After that, I went to the gym, did my leg and core exercises, and came home to eat the rest of my Spanish Chickpeas and Rice.
The verdict on the dinner after 2 additional cups of simmered chicken broth? Marginally better. I guess for brown rice, it needs to be cook well before it's incorporated into the skillet with the rest of the ingredients. Good to know for next time - it really is a tasty recipe. I would also double the spices, but that's just me.
After dinner, it was time to put up the tree! I enjoyed looking at the ornaments family and friends have given me over the years. It was fun to decorate the place, and put all the things on the tree.
Enough of that, though. Time for wine!
Ah, a Pinot Grigio Blush! The wine is light and smells of apple. It has a distinct apple taste, but the aftertaste reminds me of strawberries. I enjoy Pinot Grigio in the summer, but have never had a blush variety. It's great! Rounds the wine out a bit, it's sweeter than other Pinot Grigios I've drank. The description states, "Delicate aromas of wild strawberry, apple and honeysuckle. It is crisp and fresh on the palate." With it being a white wine, I wonder what cheese today is...
I'm surprised they've paired it with the herbed gouda, one of the stronger smelling and tasting cheeses in the pack. I would expect it would overpower the wine, but we'll find out! The cheese tastes great, again, and I think it's my favorite of the cheeses I've tasted so far. While it's a mild cheese on its own, the addition of the herbs makes it rather prominent. As a pairing, I'm not crazy about it. The cheese hides the taste of the delicate taste of the strawberry until the very end, and highlights the more acidic apple flavor.
I like both the wine, and the cheese - just not together.
