Mom's Retirement
Last weekend, I flew to Ohio to surprise mom for her last day of school with students, ever! She taught 5th and 2nd grade (not at the same time!) for a combined 28 years. I was in her first class in 1995, and thought it would be great to attend her last class! She sure was surprised, and several people helped me keep the secret until I showed up in her classroom. I hung out at the back of the classroom in an attempt to not be in the way (the kids still had an hour left of their schoolday) and document her last class. Because this was the very end of the school year, the kids were excited and out of their seats while playing Bingo. She signed yearbooks and gave away presents and posed with her last 5th grade class. I kept my visit very quiet because I wouldn't have a lot of time to see others, and the whole point was to be there with mom, regardless if I'm celebrating with her or helping her clean out her classroom so she wouldn't have to do as much.
