Red day

I am exhausted! I went to sleep last night at 10pm, but woke up at 3:15am and couldn't get back to sleep until after 5am. At work, I realized that I had brought my workout clothes but not my workout book telling me what to do at which weight. I also had a 15% off coupon about to expire, from Total Wine. So, at the end of the day, I ordered a few bottles of wine, picked them up from the store, and went home. I really, really wanted to just stop and not change my clothes for the gym, but I kept going. I tossed my laundry in the washer, changed my clothes and headed to the gym. Arm/chest exercises, and was able to increase some of the weights. Exciting! I got home, tossed the clothes in the washer into the dryer, and started dinner. I made Spanish Chickpeas in Rice from BudgetBytes. I didn't have long grain white rice, but did have some brown rice, and I also replaced the vegetable broth with chicken broth, and I didn't have any garlic cloves, so I tossed in some garlic salt. I omitted the artichoke hearts, because those are terrible.

I followed the directions with my substitutions, and once it was done, I pulled a serving out to eat - by now, I was very hungry.

The taste was lovely... but the rice wasn't cooked yet. They're not dry, at least, but my rice was very chewy and a bit crunchy. But I was so hungry that I didn't care and ate the entire serving. Once I was full, though, I figured I should continue to cook the rice. I put in 2 cups of chicken broth and simmered it for another 20 minutes or so. I didn't try it again, only because I was out of chicken broth, and I just didn't want to deal with any more culinary disappointment. Being hopeful, I got the wine and cheese out. I'm starting to decorate for Christmas, so on the wine box is a deer.

Today's wine is a Red Blend. It smells mellow and jammy. It tastes relatively smooth and of cherry and a little bit of blueberry. Not acidic, and no tannins. Easy and drinkable. Nothing complex, but that is ok! It's a very non offensive and pleasant.

Onto the cheese...

Red Leicester cheese! It's Red day today, apparently. The second appearance of the Red Leicester after eating four pieces of Gouda, is harder, sweeter, and tangier. Still very tasty, though, and would love to get a block of it sometime with crackers. The cheese makes the wine taste a bit sweeter and allows the cherry taste to shine through. Nice pairing!

And since I've fetched all my laundry from the dryer and folded it while my food was cooking, all of my necessary chores are done. Tomorrow I'll work on completing the Christmas decorations and enjoy the lovely Christmas lights on the tree until the first week of January. Right now, I'm going to put my feet up and eat the rest of today's cheese and drink the rest of today's wine.
